The Board of Directors of the Primary Care Dietitians’ Association (PCDA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristen Garland as Executive Director. Kristen became a member of the PCDA in April of 2020 and has been a valuable advisor to our Dietetic Student Support Task Force (formerly: Intern Interest Group) throughout 2021.
Kristen has held various managerial positions throughout her 20-year corporate career with experience in leadership, strategy, public relations, marketing and communications. She has dedicated the last fifteen years to advocacy work, partnering with global organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Diabetes Canada, represented The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre as the Chair of their Parent Advisory Council and Outreach & Engagement Committee, and currently sits on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for I Challenge Diabetes. After her daughter’s diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in 2013, Kristen pursued an alternate career path in healthcare and returned to school to achieve her Masters of Applied Nutrition. She has since been working in primary care and private practice as a Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Educator.
“I am excited about the potential the PCDA and its membership holds, and am proud to be part of the important work ahead in building a strategic plan that will see its mission to fruition”, said Kristen. “I look forward to blending my skillsets, experience and passions, while working alongside an esteemed, diverse Board of Directors, to explore how we can impart our values and expand upon the PCDA’s impact within Primary Care.”
Please join me in welcoming Kristen and wishing her every success.
